The sari-silk hand-knotted ikat sits at the meeting of two Indian textile traditions. Sari silk supplies a recycled fibre that catches light unpredictably; the ikat drawing supplies a pattern language built on bleeding edges and tonal drift. Together they produce a rug that behaves more like a painting than a piece of flooring.
2 weavers, 3 months on a vertical beam. Around 100 knots per square inch on a cotton foundation. Roughly 346,000 hand-tied knots in total. Recycled sari silk for the pile, drawn for its long staple and the way it holds colour through years of foot traffic. Dye throughout is set with traditional fixing salts and given a final wash to lock the saturation against light.
The composition
Colour reads as deep blue. Ikat geometry softened by the recycled silk fibre, every shape edged with the slight blur the technique is loved for. The pile will compact slightly under traffic in the first season and the colour will pull together; the rug looks more itself with use, not less.
What you are buying
What sets a hand-knotted carpet apart from any other furnishing is that it is built to outlast its first owner and gain value while it does so. Comparable workshop weavings in this tradition trade at multiples of the price asked here when they appear at international auction with provenance.
The piece in a room
4' x 6' (122 x 183 cm) works under a coffee table with seating arranged around it, in a primary bedroom as a foot-of-the-bed runner, or as the anchor in a small reading area. The blue palette pairs with rattan, leather, linen upholstery, and wood flooring across the warm spectrum. The proportions also fit a child's bedroom or a smaller dressing area without crowding the floor plan. The piece is not flooring; it is the work the room is arranged around.
Conservation
Turn the rug end-for-end twice a year so footfall and sunlight do not concentrate on one half of the pile. Suction-only vacuuming, weekly. Blot any spill, do not rub. Engage a wool-trained hand washer every six years for a deep clean. Treated this way, the carpet has a useful life of a century and gathers value as it goes.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
