Dahlia, as a colour name, sits between magenta, rose, and dusty plum. It is the warmest of the over-dye baths and the one with the most personality. The flower it takes its name from carries the same spectrum: deep at the centre of the petal, lighter at the edge, with subtle shifts that depend on the angle of light. A hand-knotted carpet over-dyed in dahlia carries that gradient logic across an entire field.
Two to three weavers spent approximately five months at the loom in India before the rug went to the bath. The construction is hand-knotted on a cotton warp, with hand-spun wool pile dyed in classical polychrome before the over-dye step. After cutting and the first wash, the entire rug was lowered into a single full-immersion dahlia bath, held until the bath had penetrated through the pile, and then dried on grass under sun and finished with a hand shear.
The composition
A field that ranges from deep dahlia at the centre to a softer rose-plum at the perimeter, with the underlying classical floral drawing visible as a warmer, slightly orange trace. The colour shifts under different light: warm and saturated under tungsten, cooler and more pink under daylight, almost burgundy in low evening light. Borders dissolve into the field as part of the over-dye logic. The whole rug reads as a single piece of considered colour.
What you are buying
Dahlia is rare in the over-dye market. Most workshops produce blue and grey because those colours sell; producing this saturation requires confidence and a willingness to risk a substantial finished carpet on a single dye decision. Comparable hand-knotted Indian wool work in 6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) prices around three lakh through Western retail. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating and matures into deeper rose tones with age.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) suits a sitting room, a primary bedroom, or a study where the rug acts as the dominant colour element. Dahlia pairs cleanly with bone, with linen, with brass and aged copper, and with woods in the walnut family. Against grey-washed walls the rug glows; against off-white plaster it warms the room without overwhelming. Keep other strong colours to a minimum and let the carpet do its work.
Conservation
Rotate the rug every six months to keep the dahlia bath fading evenly across the field. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar disengaged. Address spills immediately with cold water and a clean white cotton cloth; warm or alkaline cleaners can lift the over-dye unevenly. Schedule a professional hand wash by a wool-trained conservator every five years to refresh both the pile lustre and the depth of the dahlia.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
