The pattern in this rug grew out of contemporary studios working in conversation with mid-century Scandinavian and Anatolian geometry. An asymmetric grid in shifting tonal values, with the densities tightening at the centre and opening toward the edges so the field reads as one considered composition rather than a repeating tile.

The studio worked the design at scale on graphite, chalk and ink for several months before approving it for production. The palette holds a multi-toned palette, separated by lighter channels of negative space so the eye moves across the field rather than landing in any one place.

The composition

A multi-toned palette carries the field. The geometry holds at distance and resolves into smaller incident on approach, so the rug rewards both walking past and sitting beside. The wool was washed after weaving to settle the dye and bring the surface to a low matte sheen that catches changing light differently in the morning than in the evening. Saturation tightens in lamplight; the cooler tones lift in daylight. The piece will continue to settle into its palette across the first year of use. Photographic accuracy was never the goal; the colour the rug carries in person is warmer and more variable than any image of it can suggest.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the yarn by temperature rather than printed on the surface, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-printed fibre fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they bond. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed.

The piece in a room

5'3" x 7'6" fits the conversation circle of a working living room or the foot of a queen-size bed. The rug becomes the visual ground of the arrangement; the architecture and the lighting are read against its palette rather than the other way round. The piece sits well across stone, timber, and engineered floors.

Care

Vacuum routinely. The fibre does not stain, the colour does not fade against direct sun, and the structure tolerates anything a domestic vacuum can do. Spills lift with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent. A cold machine wash handles deeper cleaning if needed; the rug dries flat in a couple of hours and is ready to use the same day.
