The motif here arrived through a long working partnership between a Turkish design studio and the production loom. The drawing started in graphite on paper, moved through several proofs in cloth, and was settled only when the colour and geometry could carry the room from any standing position.

The palette is anchored in a multi-toned palette, set against open ground so each value reads on its own terms. The composition is meant as a single visual gesture at room scale and rewards a long look from across the room as much as a close inspection.

The composition

A multi-toned palette dominates the composition. The geometry sits at considered scale, neither pushed forward as ornament nor pulled back into ground. Plant-derived dye gives the surface a soft register that synthetic colour cannot reach, and the wool ages into the palette rather than against it. The detail in the field is meant to be discovered by the foot before it is read by the eye, which is why the rug responds so well to a low, centred furniture arrangement. Across the first season of use the wool will oxidise into a slightly deeper register and the dye will find its final saturation against the warp.

The fibre

The yarn is polypropylene, heat-set so the colour is fixed at temperature rather than printed on the surface. The fibre is dimensionally stable, holds its dye against direct sunlight, and releases pigmented spills before they bond. The pile takes the weight of furniture without permanent compression and does not shed loose fibre across the working life of the rug.

The piece in a room

5'3" x 7'4" fits the central living arrangement of a one- or two-bedroom flat. The rug is the floor of the conversation area, and the rest of the room takes its cue from its palette rather than the other way round. Pale walls let the field push forward; mid-tone walls let the rug settle into the architecture as a quieter ground.

Care

Vacuum routinely with no special precaution. Spot clean with cold water and a mild soap; the heat-set yarn releases pigmented spills before they bond at the molecular level. For deeper cleaning, machine wash on a thirty-degree cold cycle and dry flat in shade. No professional cleaning is required and the rug carries its colour through a decade of full use without fading under normal interior light.
