This pattern is one of a series of compositions developed by a Turkish design studio over the last decade. The studio works between the inherited geometry of the Anatolian carpet and the visual habits of the European design room, with results that read modern from any angle.

The palette is anchored in a ivory register. Successive proofs on cloth refined the colour relationships until the studio could lock the cartoon for production. The geometry rewards both standing distance and close approach.

The composition

The principal register of the composition is a ivory register. The figures of the design carry the secondary palette and the ground holds the principal colour without competition from the borders. Across the first year of use the surface will deepen in tone as the wool oxidises against ambient light, and the colour relationships in the field will tighten into the saturation the workshop intended. The composition reads as one settled gesture rather than a tile that repeats, which is the older and harder achievement in carpet design.

The fibre

Polypropylene, heat-set. The colour is locked into the structure of the fibre at production temperature, not applied as a surface dye. Sun, vacuum, foot traffic and ordinary cleaning have no measurable effect on the saturation. Pigmented spills release with a damp cloth before they can set into the yarn. There is no shedding and no pile crush under standard use.

The piece in a room

At 5'3" x 7'6" the rug carries a six-seat dining table or a medium living arrangement. It expects a clean field of floor around it, two to three feet of margin to the wall, so the composition is read whole and the proportions of the room are not crowded. Pale walls push the colour forward; mid-tone walls let the rug settle.

Care

Weekly vacuum on any setting; the construction is robust enough to take a beater bar without surface damage. Spills are handled with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent. The yarn does not absorb stain at the surface, so even pigmented liquids release before they set. Machine wash cold if necessary; the rug dries flat in two hours and does not require professional cleaning at any point in its working life.
