The dhurrie flatweave drawing in this piece works because flatweave forces every line to commit. There is no pile to soften an edge, no carving to absorb a misjudged proportion. The graph either holds or it does not.
The piece was hand-woven in India by 2 weavers over 3 weeks on a horizontal floor loom. Hand-spun wool was beaten down between cotton warps with a wooden comb, one weft pick at a time, building the pattern from the bottom edge upward. Flatweave construction, no pile.
The composition
The composition runs in undyed natural and oat. The flatweave structure makes the rug reversible in look if not in wear, which means the pattern is true on both faces and the piece can be flipped if one side begins to take more sun than the other. Colour boundaries are crisp because every weft is committed to a single hue from selvedge to selvedge.
The wool used here was hand-spun and undyed at the lightest values, then chrome-free dyed in small batches for the saturated tones. The loom is a horizontal pit loom of the kind that has been in continuous use across the wool-growing belts of India for generations. The weaver works from a graph paper cartoon pinned at eye level, counting wefts as the pattern builds.
The piece in a room
size as listed is the working scale for a sitting area, a study, or the foot of a bed in a guest room. Flatweave construction is light enough to pick up and shake out, which is why these pieces age well in active households. The natural field gives a quiet ground for a desk and chair or for a small reading group of two armchairs.
Care
Vacuum weekly on the lowest pile setting or with the beater bar off. Spot clean with cold water and mild detergent on a clean cotton cloth, blotting rather than rubbing. Flatweaves dry quickly because there is no pile to hold moisture. Professional cold-water wash every two to three years. Reverse the rug end-for-end annually so the wear distributes along the length and use an underlay if the surface tends to slip on smooth flooring.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
