Jute is one of the oldest textile fibres in continuous human use. The plant grows shoulder-high in the wet seasons of eastern India and Bangladesh, the stalks are retted in shallow ponds for two weeks, and the long bast fibres are stripped, dried, and spun. The cloth that results carries the smell of cut grass and the colour of late summer hay. There is almost no other natural fibre that gives a floor that quality of light.
Hand-woven in India on a flat loom by 2 weavers over two weeks. The weft is hand-spun jute, the warp is cotton, and the structure is woven dense enough to hold its shape under furniture and traffic. There is no pile and no latex backing. What you see is what holds the rug together. The grey register comes from the natural variation of the fibre rather than from heavy dyeing.
The composition
Grey carries the field as an interior ground rather than a printed surface. The pattern moves across the rug at a measured pace, with the densities slightly tighter where the eye expects to settle and looser at the perimeter. The jute pile holds the colour in a way that printed work never matches, with a small amount of optical movement that reads as life rather than noise. The piece is composed to be looked at, not just walked on.
The piece in a room
4' x 6' (4' x 6' (122 x 183 cm)) is the right scale for a small living room, an entry, a study, or a primary bedside placement under the foot of the bed. The grey ground works against both light walls and saturated paint, and pairs with both walnut and oak floors.
Care
Use a low-suction vacuum and skip the beater bar. The rug is reversible, so rotating and flipping it on a quarterly cycle will keep both faces and all four corners wearing evenly. Spot clean with mild soap and cool water. Lay flat to dry if washed. A pad below the rug stops it from creeping under regular traffic.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
