Flatweave dhurrie is the everyday carpet of the Indian household, the one that sat under the takhat in summer and got rolled up against the wall in winter. The visual language was settled long before the formal carpet workshops, and the discipline of the weft-faced loom has not changed in any material way in three centuries.
The piece was woven across around three weeks by Two. The weft was packed weft by weft against a cotton warp, with the design carried in the weaver's count rather than in a paper cartoon. The flat structure means both faces of the rug carry the same image, and the piece is fully reversible. Hand-spun yarn, washed after weaving to settle the dye and bring the surface to its final feel.
The composition
The colour register holds a brown register as its principal value. The design is allowed enough silence around itself that the field never falls into competition with the border or the centre. Plant-derived dye keeps the surface alive across changing daylight; the same panel reads warmer in lamp light and cooler at midday, which is the working signature of vegetable colour. The composition rewards both a long look from across the room and a close inspection from a low chair beside the rug.
The piece in a room
4' x 6' fits the foot of a smaller bed, the side of a sofa, or a quiet doorway. The rug is meant to be encountered slowly at this size, with the foot tracing the geometry of the field as the body moves across it. The wool carries enough body underfoot that the piece reads as warmth as much as colour.
Care
The piece needs nothing more than weekly vacuuming and the occasional flip. Suction only, no beater bar. Cool water and a drop of mild detergent handle ordinary household spills if treated promptly and blotted from the edge inward. A professional dry clean every three to four years brings the colour back to its production register.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
