The dhurrie tradition places weight on the discipline of pattern rather than on the density of the weave. A flat structure imposes its own grammar, since curves are not available on a weft-faced loom, and the geometry that results, banded fields, stepped lozenges, hard chevrons, has its own quiet authority.
Two weavers at the loom for around three weeks. The flatweave structure is built up row by row with the weft packed down by a hand-held beater after every pass. There is no pile to crush; the rug sits close to the floor and reads identically from above and below. The yarn was prepared, dyed and dried in small batches before any weaving began, which is why the colour holds the soft register that hand-spinning gives the fibre.
The composition
A green register forms the structural ground of the composition. The pattern is set into the field at a scale that resolves at room distance, with the secondary palette held in service of the principal value. The wool is hand-spun and the dye batches were small enough that the field carries a quiet tonal drift across its full length. Saturation tightens under lamp light and lifts in daylight, so the rug carries two slightly different registers across the working day.
The piece in a room
At 4' x 6' the piece is bedside or hallway scale. The composition is sized to be read at close range and rewards the slow look. The rug sits naturally under a single armchair with a side table or beneath a hall console with a small mirror above it; the surrounding furniture can be kept restrained.
Care
Care for a flat-structure rug is light by nature. Weekly suction-only vacuuming, with the rug rotated or flipped end for end every six months for balanced wear. Spills are blotted with a dry cloth, then a damp one if needed, and addressed only with cool water and a mild detergent. Send the piece for a professional dry clean every three years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
