Two to three weavers shared the loom for around five months. The pile is hand-spun wool combined with silk highlight yarn, both knotted against a cotton warp at a density tight enough to read as a single luminous surface from across a room. The base wool is dyed in three close tonal lots that read as one beige to the eye but give the surface its faint internal variation.

The composition

An open beige field with a very quiet central reserve and a single guard border at the perimeter. Silk highlight yarn is set in slow tonal arabesques that catch light from one angle and disappear from the other. From one end of the room the rug is a warm ivory ground; from the other it is a luminous beige patterned in low relief. The composition is built to function under furniture rather than to compete with it.

Conservation
