Two weavers shared the loom for about three and a half months in India. Around 1.4 million asymmetric knots tied against cotton warps in hand-spun New Zealand wool. The rust ground was pulled from a long madder bath that produces a saturated earth tone with the slight irregularity hand-spun yarn carries through dyeing. The piece was finished with a slow wash that softens the saturation, then sheared by hand to expose the surface texture above the cotton foundation.

The composition

The rust reading carries the field with measured warmth. The pattern blends classical and contemporary vocabulary, with floral incident, geometric framing, and open negative space sharing the same composition. Over the next decade the rust will lighten and the bone accents will warm. The wool develops a patina that synthetic-fibre transitional carpets never reach, regardless of how long they spend on a floor.
