Complete your setup
Blue at this saturation has been the most expensive colour in the carpet world for most of recorded history. Indigo from the leguminous dye plant required fermentation in alkaline pits, repeated dipping, and oxidation in air, and the deepest tones cost more than the wool they coloured. Court workshops reserved indigo for medallion grounds and royal commissions. The piece in front of you uses the same fermented indigo tradition, applied to wool and silk yarn knotted at high density on a contemporary Indian loom.
Two to three weavers shared the loom across about five months. The pile is hand-spun wool combined with silk highlight yarn, knotted against a cotton warp at the density needed to render the tonal shift the design depends on. The blue is built from two dye baths rather than one. The first sets the body, the second adds the depth.
The composition
A central reserve of dusk blue, fading to dawn at the borders. The silk highlights pick up reflected light and pull a faint green shift across the surface at certain angles, the way a glaze sits over an undercoat in oil paint. Pattern is intentionally minimal. A small central medallion, a single guard band at the perimeter, and a field built to behave as colour rather than as figure. The rug functions as a depth field beneath a room.
What you are buying
Indigo-ground transitional carpets in wool and silk sell at international auction in the range of twenty to forty-five thousand dollars when intact. This is a contemporary weaving in the same drawing language, in the same fibre, at the same density. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating. The blue deepens as the silk wears in.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) carries a primary living arrangement, a six-seat dining setting, or a primary bedroom with the bed floating off a headboard wall. The blue is happiest against pale plaster, off-white panelling, or warm wood. Mid-tone walls let the blue settle into the architecture; light walls push it forward as a focal field. Brass and walnut suit it best.
Conservation
Rotate one hundred and eighty degrees each spring and autumn. Vacuum twice a week, suction only, beater bar off. Blot any spill with a clean cotton cloth, never rub a silk-blended pile. Hand wash by a wool and silk trained conservator every five years. With this care the rug lasts seventy years and longer.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
