The piece was hand-tufted in India over 5 weeks. Two tufters and a finisher worked the surface, pushing wool yarn through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time with a hand-held tufting gun. The reverse was sealed with natural latex and a cotton scrim, then trimmed by hand with long shears to set the relief that lets the pattern read at room scale rather than dissolving into noise underfoot.

The single cobalt blue field carries the contemporary composition through subtle pile relief rather than colour change, the way a Jacquard weave handles a tone-on-tone pattern. As light moves across the floor through the day, the pile shifts in tone, which is what makes the surface feel alive rather than printed.

The piece in a room

Place the rug below the main seating cluster with the front legs of each piece on the field, or under a low table where the pile relief carries the design. Pairs well with mid-tone wood, leather upholstery, and brass detail. Painted walls in a muted tone hold the colour cleanly. The composition asks for calm upholstery around it. Striped, floral, or busy fabrics will compete with the rug rather than complement it. A raking light from a window or floor lamp brings out the pile shading.

Care

Vacuum on a low setting with the brush bar off. Lift spills immediately with a dry cloth, then a barely damp one if any colour remains. Avoid soaking the rug. The natural latex bonding the pile to the backing performs best when it stays dry across the years. A professional dry clean every two years carries the rug through a decade of normal household use without any visible loss of colour or pile density.
