Studio-led modern carpet design reads as architecture rather than as ornament. Open fields, tight drawing, and a discipline borrowed from twentieth-century painting and graphic design. The hand-tufted method is the right answer for a contemporary drawing that wants saturation and pile relief without the multi-month build of a knotted carpet. The trade-off is a shorter conservation horizon balanced by a far lower entry price.
4 weeks on a stretched canvas under two tufters and a finisher. Wool with silk highlights was punched through the canvas in tight rows, the back was bonded with natural latex and a cotton scrim, and the front was hand-sheared to bring the drawing into relief. The piece was finished with bound edges before it left the workshop.
The composition
The blue field is dense and even. Carved relief lifts the drawing off the ground by two to three millimetres, holding the pattern at any distance. The yarn is wool with silk highlights, dense enough to walk on barefoot and resilient enough to hold its hand under furniture for years. The blue ground is even, dyed before tufting so the colour reads through the depth of the pile rather than only at the surface.
The piece in a room
4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) works under a study, a smaller bedroom, or a reading corner. The blue colour pairs with both warm and cool wood floors, with leather and linen upholstery, and with painted walls that lean toward chalk rather than gloss. Holds against painted plaster, lime-washed brick, or limewashed wood joinery without competing with them. A felted underlay extends the life of the tufted body by spreading load and slowing fibre compression. Plan for one when you place the rug.
Care
Vacuum once a week with the beater bar disengaged. Address spills by blotting cool water on a clean cotton cloth. The pile will release loose fibre for a month or two after first laying down. A professional dry clean every three years keeps the colour fresh and the pile open.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
