The composition was drawn in a contemporary studio that works in the territory between Scandinavian restraint and Anatolian colour, then committed to a sample loom and refined over a couple of cycles before the run was approved. The proportions of the central figure to the surrounding field were the last thing settled, and they are what makes the piece read as a single composition rather than a tile.

The rug is woven on a high-density Jacquard loom in Turkey, using fibre and process developed specifically for high-traffic domestic interiors. The look reads as classical or contemporary depending on how the room is dressed around it, which is why the design has held through the better part of a decade in the catalogue without dating to any one season. The result is a piece that gives a room a graphic ground at a price that lets you commit to it without hesitation.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is fixed by temperature rather than surface dye, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-printed fibre fades. The yarn resists staining at the molecular level. Wine, coffee, juice, and oil lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile holds shape under furniture and does not shed.
