A Kasbah-inflected flatweave reads as architecture rather than upholstery. The rug carries a room without occupying it, sitting close to the floor with the colour built directly into the fibre rather than added on top of it. The result is a surface that ages without ever looking tired.
Construction took 3 to 4 weeks on a hand loom in India. The weaver works the neutral weft across the warp with a shuttle and a comb, building the Kasbah-inflected pattern shed by shed. Flatweave structure means the surface is the design, which is why a flatweave reads as architecture rather than as upholstery laid on top of the floor.
The composition
The neutral palette is set across the loom in defined panels, the Kasbah-inflected drawing emerging from the joins. Wool weft on cotton warp gives the rug a slight tooth that softens with foot traffic. The colour was matched to the master sample shed by shed across the working period.
The economics
The economics work because the loom sits in India, where the dhurrie tradition has been transmitted continuously for several generations. The rug carries the same wool, the same warp, and the same handwork that an antique example would, at a fraction of what an antique flatweave would cost in a Western dealer's gallery.
The piece in a room
Built at the size as listed, the rug works as a focal element in a small room or as a layered piece over a larger floor covering. A flexible ground for most palettes; pairs comfortably with both cool and warm rooms. The Kasbah-inflected drawing carries cleanly from across the space.
Care
Suction-only weekly vacuum. Rotate the rug end-for-end every spring. Spot-clean spills with cold water and a clean cloth, working from the outside of the spot in. Avoid harsh chemicals; flatweave wool needs nothing more than a gentle wash if a deeper clean becomes necessary, and the wool fibre rewards restraint.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
