What the trade calls transitional is the version of the classical Persian formula that contemporary interiors actually want: the technical refinement, the inherited motifs, the hand-spun wool, but with the volume on the colour reduced and the borders pulled into a softer register. The piece carried into a contemporary room here is part of that long line.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over 5 weeks by a team of two tufters and a finisher. Wool was driven through a stretched cotton primary cloth one row at a time with a tufting gun, then sealed at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The final pass was sheared by hand to bring the pile to even depth across the field. The wool was sourced from New Zealand mills for the consistency of staple length the design demands. The rug is offered in an ivory register, made in India.
The composition
Colour holds in the ivory register. The pile carries a slight directional sheen that pulls light along the warp. Walked from one end the field looks deeper, walked from the other it lifts. The pattern stays constant but the surface breathes, the optical doubling that no synthetic fibre reproduces. The borders close the field without locking it, the way a frame holds a painting without competing with it. The wool is the carrier here, accepting the colour without flattening it and holding the slight variations of dye lot that read as life rather than as flaw.
The piece in a room
The format here anchors a primary bedroom or a compact living room. The rug sits below a queen bed or in front of a three-seater sofa, with the pattern reading as the field that pulls everything else into relation. Walls in plaster, putty, or warm white hold the saturation, while darker walls let the rug settle into the architecture as a considered ground.
Care
Weekly suction vacuuming keeps the pile open. Disengage the rotating brush, which damages tufted constructions over time. Spills blot with cotton and cool water, never rub or scrub. Initial shedding tapers within a month or two and is normal. A professional dry clean every two to three years keeps the colour fresh and the latex bond sound under the cotton scrim.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
