The Ziegler revival of the 1880s rewrote what a Persian carpet could be by opening up the field, softening the palette, and giving the eye room to breathe. The look outlived its commercial moment and is now considered the canonical idiom for a quietly powerful drawing-room rug. This green wool carpet draws from the open-field Ziegler revival of the 1880s, reinterpreted on a vertical loom in India by hands that have inherited the technique through generations.
Production ran 5 months with 3 weavers working at the beam. Around 1,036,800 knots, each one tied by hand. The wool was washed twice before dyeing to strip residue lanolin, then re-treated after weaving so the pile recovers its softness. The weave structure carries a Persian asymmetric knot, which is finer and tighter than the Turkish symmetric and allows the carpet to hold detail at a higher density.
The composition
A green ground holds the composition without dominating it. Around the centre, secondary tones build depth through layered repetition rather than through sudden contrast. Vegetable dye gives the surface its slight irregularity; what looks like uneven colour at first glance is the visible memory of small dye batches and hand-spun yarn.
