3 weavers shared the loom for 8 months. Around 1,555,200 hand-tied knots, every one set against a cotton warp and pressed down with a steel comb. The pile is wool spun from highland fleece, prized because it takes plant dye to deep saturation without losing the lanolin sheen that gives a long-lived rug its quiet glow. Cotton for the warp was double-plied so the foundation stays square through generations of use, and the selvedges were over-bound by hand to keep the edges from fraying under traffic.

There is no flat colour anywhere on the rug; every block is built from yarn that varies fibre by fibre, which is why hand-knotted wool ages with such grace.
