Light green carpets are unusual in the Persian tradition because the classical schools favoured the deeper indigo-green saturations that came from heavy over-dyeing. The lighter, paler greens were a Ziegler-era development, drawn for British and continental rooms that wanted a quieter register on the floor. The pattern in front of you, named for a sitter the design was originally drawn for, works in that softer green territory.
Three weavers shared the loom for around five and a half months. The wool used here was hand-spun and tied at moderate density on a cotton warp. The light green was built up in a single careful indigo bath, layered over a pomegranate undercoat, and matured for a fortnight before the wool was lowered. The beige tones in the floral repeats were drawn from walnut hull, with madder root tinting the rose accents and oak gall holding the deeper browns in the vine work.
The composition
A soft light green ground with a beige floral lattice carried at moderate scale, framed by a single restrained border. The green sits at the cool end of sage and shifts a half-tone warmer in evening light, which is the signature of a single-bath indigo-over-pomegranate dye. There is no medallion. The composition resolves through the rhythm of the lattice, which is the older Ziegler protocol for rooms that wanted the carpet to read as ground rather than as a centred object.
What you are buying
Vegetable-dyed Zieglers on a true light green field of this scale sell through Western dealers at the equivalent of four to seven lakh, and the colour itself is among the rarer Ziegler categories. At ninety-nine thousand against a list of nearly four lakh, this is a working bargain on a piece woven to the antique density in the same hand-spun wool. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and the rarity of a true Ziegler light green compounds the appreciation.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) is the working drawing-room scale. A light green field cools a room with strong south light and lifts a north-facing one. Pairs cleanly with cream plaster, oak, brass, walnut joinery, and washed linen. The borders show on three sides under a six-seater table or a primary sofa group.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn so the green ages evenly under window light. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar disengaged. Blot any spill with a clean cotton cloth immediately, working from the outer edge inward. Hand-wash by a wool conservator every five years and ask specifically for cool-water rinsing to protect the indigo over-dye. Properly maintained the carpet runs ninety years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
