Yuvran-style Persian floral work belongs to the late classical court vocabulary that became the basis for the modern domestic carpet trade. Beige as the field colour gives the floral palmette and vine work room to breathe, with the colour conversation organised around a single dominant chromatic event in the centre. The format scales naturally to large rooms where the medallion sequence and the field drawing carry the architectural weight rather than acting as decoration.

Three weavers worked together for close to four months on this 9 by 12 ft (274 by 366 cm) handmade piece in India. Wool was loomed and finished by hand on a flat-pile structure that holds the floral drawing legibly across the field. The drawing was set out from a studio cartoon and worked in carefully so the palmette and vine elements hold their detail. Total labour runs to roughly twelve weaver-months. The pile was sheared to a low height for clean reading of the drawing.

The composition

A beige field carrying chromatic light and breathing space. Soft gold and warm rust floral pulls run through the field at calculated intervals, with the central medallion drawn in deeper rust and the corner devices echoing the central rhythm. The border carries a single guard band of warm beige with floral inflection. Beige warms with use; rust deepens toward madder. The piece pulls toward bone and chestnut over its first decade.

The piece in a room

9 by 12 ft (274 by 366 cm) is the canonical drawing-room scale. The rug expects a three-seater sofa with two armchairs and a coffee table above it, or an eight-to-ten-seater dining table with chairs that stay on the rug when pulled out. Care

Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. Light shedding for the first four to six weeks is structural and resolves on its own. Professional dry clean every two to three years. A non-slip underlay along the full footprint preserves the wool foundation from shifting under heavy furniture and protects the rug structure.
