Overdyed wool came into the global design vocabulary through a generation of decorators who wanted the texture of an antique floor without the period palette. Greens were among the slowest to enter the format because chlorophyll-derived dye was historically unstable and most workshops avoided the colour. The shift came when synthetic green dyes matured enough to hold across saturated washes on aged wool, and the bath process became reliable. This carpet sits inside that mature green tradition.
Three weavers worked the loom for around four months. The base carpet is hand-knotted wool on a cotton warp and weft at standard density. Once finished, the rug was cut into rectangular panels, restitched, and submerged in a deep emerald-green bath where the immersion time controls the survival of the underlying colours. The pile was sheared to a close eight millimetres so the seam grid remains visible as part of the geometry, and the back was stabilised with a cotton scrim before final dressing.
The composition
Field of deep green carrying the residue of old red borders, ivory grounds, and indigo guard bands as low-contrast under-pattern. Some panels turn forest, some lean toward moss, some hold a faint blue-green where the source wool was already cool. The variation is what gives the rug its painterly surface. Read at distance the rug presents as a single considered green plane; read at close range it presents as an archive of a dozen earlier rugs.
What you are buying
At equivalent Western dealers, hand-knotted overdyed patchwork carpets of this size list at 1,750 to 2,800 GBP without the same density. Here the listing is 94,399 against 3,77,300 MSRP, which puts the per-square-foot economy below that of a comparable European-imported piece. Hand-knotted wool with this construction holds value across decades and improves with foot traffic, which separates it from any tufted or printed equivalent at any price point.
The piece in a room
7' x 10' (213 x 305 cm) anchors a primary living room or fits beneath a six-seat dining table with the leg-clearance the format expects. Deep green sits well against ivory plaster, oak panelling, brass lighting, and any material in the linen-leather-walnut family. Pair with one or two strong patterns at most; the field of the rug is doing the graphic work.
Conservation
Rotate twice a year so daylight wears evenly across panels. Vacuum suction-only, weekly, with the beater bar disengaged. Address spills by blotting flat with a clean cotton cloth, never rubbing across the pile. Plan a wool-conservator hand-wash every five years. With careful handling the rug runs seventy years and continues to deepen across that span.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
