Floor textile design has moved across borders for as long as there have been borders to cross. The pattern reading here is the result of that drift settling, for the moment, into a contemporary studio composition.
The piece took roughly 7 weeks at a single bench, two tufters carrying the field and a third hand finishing. The wool pile was tufted through a cotton ground one colour separation at a time, the gun working at a controlled tension to keep the loop height even across the field. The latex sealing and scrim laminate were applied after the field was complete and the work cured. The carving step took a finisher about a week with hand shears, cutting the pattern into a low relief that pulls a millimetre or two of shadow into every motif edge. The piece behaves differently in lamp light than in north light.
The composition
A green and gold ground carrying the design in a slightly raised relief. The wool sits between matte and lustred depending on how the light falls on it; in north light the field reads cool, in evening light it warms toward the deeper end of the palette. The figure work holds at room distance and reveals itself only on approach, the way a good painting does the same thing in a gallery.
The piece in a room
At 8' × 10' (244 × 305 cm) the rug holds the central area of a living room or a primary bedroom. The green and gold has enough weight to anchor a seating arrangement without flattening the rest of the palette. Position so the rug extends at least eighteen inches beyond the seating on three sides; the eye reads the negative-space frame as part of the composition.
Care
Suction-only vacuuming weekly. Beater bars pull at the tufted base and shorten the working life of the rug. Blot spills immediately with clean cotton, never with paper towel which leaves fibre behind. Expect six weeks of light shedding from new as the loose ends of the cut pile work themselves clear. A professional dry clean every three years keeps the surface from compacting.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
