The hand-knotted carpet has carried meaning across courts and caravan routes for the better part of a thousand years. Each row of knots is tied by feel against a vertical loom, slow work that resists shortcut. The pattern in front of you sits inside that long tradition, drawn from the workshop vocabulary that produced the great Persian and Indo-Persian carpets of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The carpet was put up on a vertical loom in northern India. 2 weavers shared the work over roughly 5 months, tying knots by feel against the warp without lifting the cartoon between rows. Around 0.7 million asymmetric knots in total, with wool pile on a cotton foundation. The beige register is built up across multiple dye lots so the eye reads variation rather than a single flat field, and the pile was clipped and washed by hand once the rug came off the loom.
The composition
A composition built around a beige field that shifts between sand and bone depending on the daylight. The pattern develops at a measured pace and the colour holds its register across the field. Read at full room scale the rug becomes a quiet ground; read at arm's length it resolves into the weave, the pull of the pile, and the slight irregularity that signals a piece worked by hand.
What you are buying
An accessible point of entry to hand-knotted wool work in the beige register. The construction follows the same loom and the same knot that more expensive workshop carpets use; the price reflects size and density rather than any compromise in technique. A knotted wool carpet at this price is built to last decades.
The piece in a room
At 5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) the rug suits a compact living area, a primary bedroom with a queen frame, or a dining nook seating four. The beige ground holds the floor without claiming ownership of the room, and the geometry resolves cleanly when sofa legs and side tables sit on top of it. Front legs of upholstery on the rug, rear legs off, is the arrangement that lets the field read at full strength. Sits well beside mid-century timber furniture, contemporary low-slung upholstery, and lighting that throws warm rather than cool light.
Conservation
Rotate end for end every six months so light and footfall age the pile evenly. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. A hand wash by a wool-trained cleaner every five to seven years is appropriate for a knotted carpet of this caliber. The rug is built to live for several decades.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
