Floral vine carpets sit at the calmest end of the Persian transitional vocabulary. A trellis of stems, leaves, and small blossoms running across an undecorated field, the pattern open enough to breathe and disciplined enough to read as composition rather than wallpaper. The Opera draws on this grammar, scaling the vine to a beige ground that lets the drawing speak without raising its voice.

Three weavers shared the loom in northern India for around four and a half months. The pile is hand-spun wool over a cotton foundation, the knot a Persian asymmetric tied at a measured cadence row by row. The beige ground is the natural undyed wool, washed and lightly bleached only enough to even out the colour. The vine work draws on indigo, walnut, and a touch of madder, each colour matured in copper before the wool was lowered into the bath.

The composition

A continuous beige field carries a curving floral vine in indigo, soft rust, and walnut brown. The border is restrained, a single deep guard band with a thin ivory rule on either side, framing rather than enclosing. The undyed beige holds a faint variegation that plant dye cannot replicate, the natural grading of the fleece itself. Over years of use the indigo will deepen and the beige will warm into a softer cream, with the carpet reading more unified the longer it lives.

What you are buying

A vine pattern wool carpet at 6' x 9' density, offered through Western dealers, ranges between three and six lakh equivalent. This piece is woven in the same tradition, on the same kind of loom, by hands trained in the same idiom. The price reflects four and a half months of skilled labour and the cost of vegetable dye carried through the workshop, not a markup on antique scarcity. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating, which is not a property of any other floor object at any price.

The piece in a room

6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) is the working scale for a primary bedroom under the foot of the bed, a study placed below a partner desk, or a small formal living room arranged around a single sofa and a pair of chairs. The beige field accepts almost any surrounding palette, from chalk walls and oak joinery to deeper plaster and walnut. Brass, aged bronze, and warm linen all read well above the surface.

Conservation

Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn so window light ages the beige evenly. Vacuum weekly on suction only with the beater bar lifted. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, working from outside the stain toward the centre. A wool trained conservator should hand wash the carpet every five to seven years. With these habits the piece runs a hundred years.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
