Hand-woven carpets in this idiom were originally made for tents, then for temple floors, then for verandas. The vocabulary is geometric because the loom rewards geometry and punishes curves. What survived from those early uses into the contemporary room is a sense of restraint: the rug is built to be lived on, not displayed.
The flatweave was made in India over four weeks on a horizontal pit loom. Hand-spun wool worked weft against weft until the field composes. The rug is reversible by construction; the back is as finished as the front, which is part of why a wool kilim outlives its first generation of owners with relative ease.
The composition
Blue blocks set against open ground. The geometry is built around the loom rather than against it; every diagonal is stepped, every curve is a stack of small rectangles. The composition reads cleanly from a standing height and rewards a closer look. The flatweave keeps the colour fully exposed; nothing is hidden in a deep pile, so the dye work has to carry the rug on its own.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) anchors a primary bedroom, a small living room, or a dining set for four to six. The size carries a sofa, two side chairs, and a coffee table comfortably with the rug visible at the perimeter of the furniture. Reads strongly against pale walls and tempers under a dark ceiling. Care
Vacuum weekly on suction only. Air the rug outside every few months to refresh the fibre. Blot spills cool, never warm. The construction allows the rug to be flipped to the reverse face for a clean second life if the front catches heavy wear in one zone. Rotate end to end annually for even wear across the surface.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
