A round carpet is a different problem from a rectangular one. The pattern has to resolve in every direction at once, with no long axis to organise the field and no border that can carry the eye home. The Persian workshops solved it by working from a true centre outward, letting the medallion do the work that a long composition would do over distance, and that is the logic that governs the antique-style design in front of you.
One senior weaver tied the entire piece on a custom round loom over roughly four and a half months. Working alone is the older protocol for round carpets because the radial tension a single hand maintains is more even than tension shared between weavers. The dyes were prepared from madder, indigo, vine ash, and pomegranate skin, each lot matured for two weeks before the wool was lowered. After cutting, the rug was sun-dried over twelve days so the fibres locked at their final tension.
The composition
A central medallion in soft rose and ochre, with a quiet vine carrying outward to a single guard band. The palette reads as if it has already lived a generation, with the highlights toned down and the field carrying a gentle, walked-in patina from the wash. There is no jarring contrast in the piece. Everything sits in the same range so the eye registers the medallion first and the lattice afterward.
What you are buying
Antique Persian rounds of this size and condition appear at auction perhaps twice a year and clear in the range of two and a half to five lakh equivalent. This is a new weaving in the same tradition, on a vertical round loom, in hand-spun vegetable-dyed wool. At seventy-three thousand against a list of nearly two lakh seventy thousand, the rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
6' (183 cm) round suits an entry rotunda, the centre of a square library, or beneath a circular dining table for four. The medallion locates the table without having to be seen under it, which is the function the design was developed to perform. The piece sits well against terracotta, lime-washed plaster, and stone floors.
Conservation
Rotate a quarter turn each season so the wear pattern cycles evenly around the field. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar off. Address spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth and cool water, blotting from the edge inward. Hand-wash by a conservator every five years. Stored rolled, never folded, with the pile facing inward.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
