Classical Persian carpets are built on a single architectural idea: a central medallion held inside layered borders, every element rotating around one axis. The composition has been refined for nine hundred years across the workshops of Tabriz, Kashan, and Isfahan. This natural reading of the form is hand-knotted in India using the asymmetric Persian knot the original masters used.

3 weavers shared the loom for 6 months. 2.1 million hand-tied asymmetric knots, each one set against a vertical beam by feel rather than by counting. The pile is hand-spun wool, chosen for its long staple and its ability to hold vegetable dye to deep saturation without losing the slight tonal variation that gives a hand-knotted rug its patina. The foundation is cotton, which holds the rug flat and square through decades of use.

The composition

The palette holds natural as the dominant value, with the persian drawing answering it in lighter and darker accents. Each colour was dyed in copper vats over several days so the wool absorbs pigment unevenly at the molecular level. That is what gives the rug its depth and what separates a hand-dyed pile from a mill-dyed one.

What you are buying

An entry point to collecting hand-knotted work, made on the same loom and with the same knot structure as pieces five times the price. 3 weavers, 6 months, 2.1 million knots. The wool develops patina with use, which is the signature distinction between a hand-knotted rug and a printed or tufted one.

The piece in a room

At size as listed the rug is large enough to define a room rather than ornament one. Place the front legs of the seating on the field. The natural palette pairs with walnut and brass, with linen upholstery, with raw plaster walls. It does not pair well with strongly patterned wallpaper; the rug expects to be the graphic event.

Conservation

Vacuum on suction, no beater bar. Rotate twice a year. Blot, never rub, when something spills. Have the rug professionally hand-cleaned every five to seven years by a conservator who knows wool. A hand-knotted rug looked after this way is the only object on your floor that gains value with age.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
