Agra carpets owe their reputation to the workshops that operated under Mughal patronage across northern India from the late sixteenth century onward. The defining qualities settled early. Long sinuous floral tendrils, angular vine work that resolves at every junction, palmettes pulled from Persian sources but elongated to suit a denser knot count, and a borderwork that frames without crowding. A round Agra is a more recent construction. The compositional discipline is the same, but the geometry has to bend.
One to two weavers worked this 6 ft (183 cm diameter) round over roughly three and a half months. Knotting a circle on a rectangular loom requires the design to be re-plotted each row, with the cartoon adjusted for the chord length at every height. The pile is hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, tied with the Persian asymmetric knot. The piece was finished with a tea wash that drops the surface into the warm antiqued register that defines the Agra revival vocabulary.
The composition
A central rosette in faded ochre sits inside a beige field that radiates outward through a layered floral repeat. The vine work is plotted to follow the circumference rather than to ignore it, which is the technical signature that separates a true round Agra from a square design forced into a circular trim. The border carries a single guard band rather than the layered borders that would crowd a round at this diameter. The colour will quiet over time.
What you are buying
Antique Indian rounds with comparable density and condition trade through London dealer rooms between 4,500 and 9,000 pounds when they appear, which is rarely. A new Agra round is a continuation of the tradition with the same constructional discipline, and the appreciation curve is intact because the supply of weavers who can plot a circle is shrinking each year. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
6 ft (183 cm) diameter sits naturally beneath a round dining table for four to six, in the centre of an octagonal entry, or as a circular focal piece in a primary bedroom or library. The beige palette pairs with walnut, oak, brass, and natural linen. Round geometry asks for a centred ceiling fixture or skylight above. The rug holds a room rather than fitting into one.
Conservation
Rotate a quarter turn every six months so foot traffic distributes evenly across the radius. Vacuum on low suction, beater bar off. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth pressed flat. A wool-trained conservator should hand wash the piece every five to six years to lift dust from below the pile.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
