Flatweave carpets carry a different weight from pile rugs. They sit lower against the floor, they show their structure, and they age by softening rather than by compressing. The technique is older than knotting and continues to be made by hand on the same simple frame loom that has served the tradition for generations. The structure is honest: what you see on the surface is the same yarn that holds the back together.

Hand-woven in India. The yarn is wool, hand-spun and dyed in small lots so the colour carries the slight irregularity that machine dyeing eliminates. Two to three weeks on the loom, with each row beaten down before the next went in. The result is a flatweave that holds its shape over decades of use.

The composition

The palette is ivory, laid in geometric blocks because the loom rewards geometry and punishes curves. The flatweave construction lets the pattern read on both faces of the rug; the reverse is as finished as the front. The texture is dry to the touch in the way only a hand-woven carpet is, and the surface lays cleanly against a hard floor without needing a heavy underlay.

The size as listed works inside its room cleanly without claiming a wall. The rug rewards a balanced furniture plan and steps back when a single architectural detail wants to lead. At any scale the construction holds the same character: the wool sits with the same hand, the dye carries the same depth, and the surface ages the same way over years of use. The ivory ground stays visible at the perimeter of the furniture, which is what gives the rug its work in a room.

Care

Vacuum weekly on suction only. Air the rug outside every few months to refresh the fibre. Blot spills cool, never warm. The construction allows the rug to be flipped to the reverse face for a clean second life if the front catches heavy wear in one zone. Rotate end to end annually for even wear across the surface.
