The Chobi tradition is a relatively recent development in the long history of Persian weaving. The form emerged in the late twentieth century when refugee weavers began producing carpets in northern Pakistan and India that returned to vegetable dye after decades of synthetic colour, working a softer palette of beige, ivory, and faded madder over Ghazni-tier wool. The carpet on the loom in front of you sits squarely in that lineage, with a beige field carrying restrained floral repeats that read calmer than a classical Persian.
Two to three weavers shared the loom for close to four months. The pile is hand-spun Ghazni wool on a cotton foundation, knotted with the Persian asymmetric tie, then washed with a special Chobi sequence that lowers the saturation and gives the carpet the time-blunted surface the form is known for. The dye work is genuinely vegetable, drawn from madder root, walnut hull, and oak gall, with the baths matured for two to three weeks before the wool was lowered.
The composition
A beige field carries a measured floral repeat in faded ochre, soft rust, and indigo, with the corner resolutions worked by eye rather than from a strict cartoon. The borders are restrained, a single thin guard rather than a layered frame. The colour relationship reads calm and almost monochromatic at distance, with the floral incident registering on closer inspection. The Chobi wash means the carpet arrives looking lived-with; over the next decade the beige will warm toward bone and the ochre will deepen to amber.
What you are buying
Genuine Chobi carpets of this scale and density sell through European tribal and Persian dealers in the four to seven thousand dollar range. This is a freshly woven piece in the full Chobi tradition, with the Ghazni wool, the vegetable dye, and the characteristic finishing wash. A wool carpet of this construction appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and the beige palette will gain rather than lose character with age.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm) anchors a primary bedroom under the foot of the bed, a study with a desk and a reading chair, or a smaller living room with a single sofa. The beige ground pairs with walnut, oak, and stone floors and carries upholstery in cream, charcoal, and brown leather. Reads particularly well in rooms with low natural light, where the soft palette warms the space rather than competing for attention.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet by a half turn every six months so light and traffic age the wool evenly. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar lifted. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth and cool water from the outside in. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the piece every five years to keep the foundation supple and the wool resilient. Maintained this way the carpet will run sixty to eighty years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
