This composition came out of a Turkish design studio working between traditional Anatolian carpet vocabulary and contemporary European graphic design. The result is a single arrested image rather than a tiled repeat, sized to the working dimensions of a modern living room.

The palette is built around a gray register. The studio iterated the colour relationships through several proofs before locking the production cartoon. At distance the field reads as one quiet ground; on approach the shift in density becomes visible.

The composition

A gray register is the working colour of the field. The geometry is built to read across distance and to reward close approach in equal measure. Small-batch vat dyeing produces a slight tonal drift that gives the surface its sense of life; from any standing position the rug reads as one quiet ground rather than a tile that repeats. Across the first year the saturation will tighten and the field will deepen by half a stop as the wool oxidises against ambient light.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene yarn. The colour sits inside the fibre rather than on top of it, which is the reason saturation holds against window light and against vacuum cleaning across a working life. Wine, coffee, juice and oil release from the surface with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent; nothing soaks in. The pile is dimensionally stable and does not shed.

The piece in a room

At 5'3" x 7'5" the rug carries a six-seat dining table or a medium living arrangement. It expects a clean field of floor around it, two to three feet of margin to the wall, so the composition is read whole and the proportions of the room are not crowded. Pale walls push the colour forward; mid-tone walls let the rug settle.

Care

Care is essentially minimal. A weekly run of the vacuum is enough for surface dust; the construction tolerates a beater bar without damage. Spills release with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent. For more difficult marks, a cold machine wash works; the rug folds into a domestic drum and dries flat in a couple of hours.
