The drawing for this rug began in studios working in conversation with mid-century geometry and traditional motif libraries. The result is a graphic field in ivory that holds at any viewing distance. Standing in the doorway you read the composition as a single mass; close to the rug you read the individual strokes of the graphic drawing.

The drawing was developed over months in a design studio before going into production. Each colour was specified in detail and tested for behaviour under both warm and cool light. The resulting graphic composition in the ivory family is built to hold its read across the variable lighting conditions of an actual room.

The composition

The composition uses ivory as its base note, with the graphic motif articulated in shifts of density rather than sharp colour contrasts. At distance the rug reads as a single tone; on approach the pattern resolves. That two-distance behaviour is why the design holds in rooms of different scales. The drawing has been calibrated to work both as floor furniture seen from the sofa and as graphic ground seen from the doorway.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked in by temperature rather than dyed at the surface, so saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment printing fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed.

The piece in a room

The 5'3" x 7'5" (160 × 226 cm) format anchors a flat living room, a guest bedroom, or a dining set for four. The graphic drawing holds at conversational viewing distance and resolves cleanly when walked across. Pair with linen or cotton upholstery in close-value neutrals, a low coffee table that sits inside the rug perimeter, and curtain drops in a tone close to the rug ground rather than in contrast.

Care

Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. Machine wash on a cold 30°C cycle if a spill resists spot cleaning; the size folds to fit a domestic drum. Dries flat in two hours. No professional cleaning required. The fibre is colourfast under direct sunlight, so the rug can sit in a sunny living room without fading the way wool would.
