The Moroccan tribal vocabulary moves between the strict diamond grid of Beni Ourain and the freer multi-coloured drawing of Boucherouite and Boujad work, where weavers laid down dyed motifs across a white ground in patterns closer to embroidery than to traditional carpet drawing. Quinto sits in that freer tradition. A white-ground field carrying a measured scatter of coloured motifs in a tribal vocabulary that does not repeat across the rug.

One weaver worked this Quinto piece in size as listed across roughly two and a half months in India. Wool was hand-spun thick in the Atlas register, knotted in the Berber-style symmetric knot on a cotton foundation, and washed once after the loom came down to open the hand. Coloured motifs were knotted into the white ground using small lots of dyed wool in red, indigo, ochre, and soft black.

The composition

An undyed white field carrying the natural variation of the fleece. Coloured tribal motifs of small scale, drawn from the Moroccan vocabulary of diamonds, crosses, and stars, scattered across the field in apparent improvisation rather than strict repeat. The colour load is light, so the white still reads as the dominant ground. Across years the white warms to bone and the coloured motifs settle into the wool rather than reading as graphic interruptions.

What you are buying

Authentic Berber rugs of this multi-coloured register sell in the West, at specialist dealers, at multiples of this figure for comparable size. This is contemporary weaving in the same tribal lineage, by hand, in hand-spun wool, at a working price. An entry into the tradition. The hand-knotted piece appreciates with use rather than depreciating.

The piece in a room

The white-ground multi piece suits a primary bedroom, a play room for children, a flat living area with light wood floors, or a meditation corner. The white sits with limestone, with raw oak, with whitewashed plaster. The coloured motifs add play to a quiet room. The piece works barefoot.

Conservation

Rotate end for end twice a year. Vacuum weekly, suction only, no beater bar. Blot spills at once with a clean cotton cloth, which matters more on a white ground than on a darker rug. A wool-trained hand wash every five to six years preserves the white. The piece runs two generations of careful Indian ownership.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
