The pattern in this rug came out of contemporary Indian textile studios working from a vocabulary that runs from Bauhaus geometry to South Asian block-print. The composition was developed in pencil and gouache before being graphed for the loom. The studio's brief was straightforward: a drawing that holds the floor without competing with the upholstery, and a palette that tolerates a decade of furniture rotation.
The piece took a tufter and a finisher working in India for about 4 weeks from a chalked cartoon. Dense New Zealand wool pile sits on a cotton primary and is locked in place with a natural-latex back coat and a woven scrim. A long-shear pass at the end cleaned the line work to the depth the design requires. The hand of the pile is consistent across the field because each panel was tufted on a single beam by the same hands.
The composition
The palette is built around brown held against quieter undertones. The modern pattern is shorn at a relief that reads first as silhouette and second as detail. The fibre is hand-finished, which means the surface picks up light differently as the angle of view shifts across the room. Daylight from a side window will set the relief into clearer focus than overhead lighting can. The piece reads as a considered composition rather than as a printed surface, which is the dividing line between hand-finished and mass-produced tufting.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug works as a focal field in a considered room. Restrained upholstery, warm wood, and walls in a tonal register all let the brown ground sit as the central element of the composition rather than as a competing voice. The piece pairs equally well with mid-century, modern, and transitional joinery, and reads against painted, papered, and exposed-brick walls without losing its own register.
Care
Suction-only vacuuming once a week. Address spills by blotting from the outside in with clean cotton, then follow with a damp pass on the same area. Initial shedding is normal and self-limiting over the first two months. Rotate end for end yearly. Professional dry-clean every two to three years to refresh the pile and restore the loft.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
