The kilim and dhurrie traditions share a common ancestor in the slit-weave looms of central Asia. The contemporary composition in this rug draws from that vocabulary and sets it on an Indian wool warp, with the colour blocks defined by changing the weft yarn rather than by overlaying figure on top of ground.
Made by hand in India across 3 to 4 weeks. The weaver passes weft through warp shed by shed and pulls the comb through to set the pick. The neutral pattern emerges directly from the structure rather than from a separate design layer on top of it. The result is a textile that wears down rather than wearing through, since there is no pile to lose.
The composition
A neutral composition with the contemporary structure drawn directly into the weave. The look is clean rather than elaborate, the surface flat enough to slide a chair across without catching. Hand-loomed wool of this kind gains a soft polish over years of use that is the textile equivalent of patina on raw brass.
The economics
A handmade flatweave at this scale is one of the more accessible entry points to collecting hand-finished textile work. Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.

Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
