The pattern in this rug grew out of a contemporary studio working in conversation with both the Beni Ourain tribal vocabulary and Scandinavian mid-century geometry. An open grey field with simple linear drawing in soft black, scaled for a domestic room rather than for a tribal floor. The studio worked the geometry in pencil and ink for several months before approving it for production, calibrating line weight and field intervals so the composition reads at room scale without dissolving on close approach.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene, manufactured in Turkey to the standards of the European jacquard trade. The yarn is engineered so the colour is locked in by temperature rather than surface dye, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-dyed fibre does. The pile resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The fibre stays flat under furniture and does not shed.

The composition

Three values of grey separated by lighter channels of negative space. Soft black drawing carries the linear elements across the field at irregular intervals, calibrated so the geometry has rhythm without becoming a repeat. The asymmetry is deliberate; the eye moves across the field rather than landing in one place. The rug is built to give a room a considered ground without claiming ownership of it. Pairs poorly with strongly patterned upholstery; the rug expects to be the only graphic element.

The piece in a room

5 ft 3 in by 7 ft 4 in (162 by 226 cm) is the working scale for living rooms in flats, dining areas under a four-to-six-seater table, primary bedrooms, and corridors with foot traffic the wool tier would not survive. The geometry holds at distance and reveals on approach. Pair with brushed brass, walnut, leather, raw oak, and warm wood floors.

Care

Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. Machine wash on a cold 30 degree cycle if a spill resists spot cleaning; the size folds to fit a domestic drum. Dries flat in two hours. No professional cleaning required.
