Floral oriental work belongs to a vocabulary that runs from the gardens of Isfahan to the upholstery of Edwardian London. The pattern in this rug takes that grammar and translates it into a softer, more domestic palette.

Built in India over 3 to 5 weeks. Two tufters worked the front of the canvas, and a finisher carved the relief between motif and ground by hand once the pile was set. The wool is graded for length and crimp before tufting, which is what gives the finished pile its even hand and resilience under traffic.

The composition

Floral cadence in ivory, deep red, pink held against a quieter ground. The drawing breathes between motif and field without crowding either. The hand-shearing has been used to drop the field a millimetre below the figure, which is how the pattern reads under domestic lighting.

Why hand-tufted

Tufted wool work is the right tier when the room needs a hand-finished surface but does not need the multi-decade build of a knotted carpet. The wool is the same. The pattern reads the same. The proportions hold for both rectangular and squared room layouts and the field reads as a single considered ground rather than as a covering. Pairing with mid-tone walls keeps the saturation honest. Direct sunlight deepens the register over time rather than washing it out.

Care

Weekly vacuuming on suction only. Light shedding for the first month or two is normal and resolves on its own. Blot spills, never rub. A professional dry clean every two to three years restores the pile and lifts any embedded grit.
