The lineage runs from the formal Persian garden carpets through the gentler Anglo-Indian medallions of the nineteenth century into a contemporary tufted reading. The drawing is restrained at every level: a single central bloom, soft vines around it, layered but reduced borders.

Hand tufted in India in several weeks by two tufters and a finisher. The wool was sourced from New Zealand and Indian fleece, hand-skeined and dyed before being passed through the tufting gun. Latex seal, cotton scrim, hand-shorn pile, edge bound by hand.

The composition

The medallion reads in ivory at the centre. Soft scrollwork extends across the field, with smaller flower heads picked up in the corner spandrels. The borders are restrained, layered in two registers rather than five. The hand-shorn pile gives the design a slight sculptural relief that catches light along the carved edges of the pattern, so the rug reads as a low bas-relief on approach rather than as a flat painted surface. The wool used here is a blend of New Zealand and Indian fleece, hand-skeined and dyed in small batches before tufting. The ivory reading sits with the slight tonal variation that only comes from yarn dyed in lots rather than mass-batched. The fibre takes light cleanly and gives the rug a depth that engineered yarns at the same price point cannot match.

size as listed. Small rugs in this scale work as accents: under a single armchair, in a bathroom, in a pooja corner, or as a foreground piece on a larger plain field. The hand-shorn surface gives the rug a low sculptural relief that catches raking light. The ivory reads true under most domestic lighting and tones down under low ambient light.

Care

Weekly vacuuming with rotating brush off. Spills lifted with a clean cotton cloth, blotted not rubbed. Light shedding for the first month or two. Professional dry clean every two years if the rug is in a high-traffic area, every three for a bedroom or low-use room.
