The motif here arrived through a long working partnership between a Turkish design studio and the production loom. The drawing started in graphite on paper, moved through several proofs in cloth, and was settled only when the colour and geometry could carry the room from any standing position.

The palette is anchored in a green register, set against open ground so each value reads on its own terms. The composition is meant as a single visual gesture at room scale and rewards a long look from across the room as much as a close inspection.

The composition

Built around a green register. The composition is the result of a slow studio process; the cartoon was charted at scale, the dye batches were proofed against each other, and the colour relationships were settled before any wool reached the warp. The result is a single still image at room scale rather than a tiled repeat that fills a floor. The slight tonal drift across the field is the trace of small-batch dyeing in copper vats; from any standing distance it gathers into a single colour.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the yarn by temperature rather than printed on the surface, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-printed fibre fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they bond. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed.

The piece in a room

5'3" x 7'5" is the right scale for the primary seating arrangement of a one- or two-bedroom home. The rug holds a sofa, two armchairs, and a coffee table inside its margins, with breathing room around the furniture so the composition is legible. The geometry is sized to read at the distance from the doorway to the seating.

Care

Weekly vacuum on any setting; the construction is robust enough to take a beater bar without surface damage. Spills are handled with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent. The yarn does not absorb stain at the surface, so even pigmented liquids release before they set. Machine wash cold if necessary; the rug dries flat in two hours and does not require professional cleaning at any point in its working life.
