The design here came out of a Turkish studio practice that treats the carpet field as a graphic surface rather than as a tiled repeat. The reference points sit between Anatolian village vocabulary and the European studio-design tradition of the last forty years.

The palette runs around a ivory register, with the relationships proofed across several rounds of cloth before the production cartoon was cut. The composition is meant to read as a single arrested image at room scale rather than as ornament that fills a floor.

The composition

The composition rests on a ivory register. The figures move across the field at a measured density, with the negative space holding as much weight as the marked geometry. The colour will continue to settle across the first months of use, as the wool oxidises against ambient light and the dye finds its final saturation. The colour relationships in the field will tighten as the wool settles into the foundation across the first months of use.

The fibre

The fibre is heat-set polypropylene. Pigment is fixed into the yarn at temperature, which means the colour holds against direct sun without fading and does not lift under cleaning. Stains release at the surface because the fibre does not absorb pigmented liquid; spills are blotted away with a damp cloth before they set. The pile recovers from furniture compression without needing steam or grooming.

The piece in a room

At 5'3" x 7'6" the rug is the structural floor of a primary living area. Place a three-seater sofa above it with a low coffee table at the centre, and the geometry of the room is settled. The piece carries enough scale to be the principal colour decision in the space and asks the upholstery, the wall paint, and the lighting to take their cue from there.

Care

Weekly vacuum on any setting; the construction is robust enough to take a beater bar without surface damage. Spills are handled with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent. The yarn does not absorb stain at the surface, so even pigmented liquids release before they set. Machine wash cold if necessary; the rug dries flat in two hours and does not require professional cleaning at any point in its working life.
