The floral repeat, refined over four centuries in the Persian and Mughal court workshops, holds together by rhythm rather than incident. The eye reads it as a single field. This piece is hand-knotted in wool in India.
A single weaver sat at the loom across around four months of continuous work. Wool hand-spun in small lots, dyed in copper vats, then knotted against a cotton warp by feel rather than count. The back of the rug carries the drawing as clearly as the face does, which is the structural test of a carpet woven properly through every row.
The composition
The field reads first: a calm multicoloured ground, with a floral repeat drawn in restrained colour. Closer in, the small variations in dye lot that only hand-spun wool can give. The drawing was carried at full scale on a cartoon hung behind the loom; the weaver worked from it row by row, by sight.
What you are buying
What you are paying for is the weeks of weaver-time, the hand-spun wool, the dye work, and the design lineage. Comparable antique pieces in good condition trade well above this price in the international market. The rug appreciates with careful use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
The 4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) format suits a corridor, a study, or under a side table. The multicoloured palette holds against soft bone, putty, or lime-washed plaster walls, and the rug pairs cleanly with walnut, oak, linen upholstery, leather without competing for the room. Layering a smaller wool or hide over a corner gives the room a second register without breaking the main field.
Conservation
Treat the rug as a long-lived object. Rotate seasonally to even out light and footfall. Vacuum weekly with suction only. Spot-clean spills with a damp cotton cloth. Schedule a professional hand wash every five to seven years. The carpet outlasts the room it was bought for.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
