The pattern in this rug grew out of contemporary studios working in conversation with mid-century Scandinavian and Anatolian geometry. An asymmetric grid in shifting tonal values, with the densities tightening at the centre and opening toward the edges so the field reads as one considered composition rather than a repeating tile.

The studio worked the design at scale on graphite, chalk and ink for several months before approving it for production. The palette holds a gray register, separated by lighter channels of negative space so the eye moves across the field rather than landing in any one place.

The composition

The slight irregularities in dye saturation are not flaws; they are the signature of wool batched in small lots and dyed in copper vats by hand. Photographic accuracy was never the goal. The colour the rug carries in person is warmer, softer, and longer-lived than any image of it can suggest. The geometry is sized for the room rather than for the photograph; the rug rewards a close look as much as a standing one.

The fibre

Polypropylene, heat-set. The colour is locked into the structure of the fibre at production temperature, not applied as a surface dye. Sun, vacuum, foot traffic and ordinary cleaning have no measurable effect on the saturation. Pigmented spills release with a damp cloth before they can set into the yarn. There is no shedding and no pile crush under standard use.

The piece in a room

At 5'3" x 7'4" the rug is the structural floor of a primary living area. Place a three-seater sofa above it with a low coffee table at the centre, and the geometry of the room is settled. The piece carries enough scale to be the principal colour decision in the space and asks the upholstery, the wall paint, and the lighting to take their cue from there.

Care

Care is essentially minimal. A weekly run of the vacuum is enough for surface dust; the construction tolerates a beater bar without damage. Spills release with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent. For more difficult marks, a cold machine wash works; the rug folds into a domestic drum and dries flat in a couple of hours.
