Modern carpet design, from the Bauhaus weavers forward, taught us that geometry alone could carry a floor. No medallion, no border, just a considered field. This rug works in that vocabulary, hand-knotted in India.
Three weavers carried the work through six months. Hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, knotted at the speed a careful hand can sustain, roughly ten thousand knots a day per weaver. The finish was sheared close enough to read the drawing without losing the body of the pile, then washed twice and stretched to dry.
The composition
The field reads first: a calm ivory ground, with a floral repeat drawn in restrained colour. Closer in, the small variations in dye lot that only hand-spun wool can give. The drawing was carried at full scale on a cartoon hung behind the loom; the weaver worked from it row by row, by sight.
What you are buying
What you are paying for is the months of weaver-time, the hand-spun wool, the dye work, and the design lineage. Comparable antique pieces in good condition trade well above this price in the international market. The rug appreciates with careful use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
At 8' × 10' (244 × 305 cm) the rug anchors a full living area with a sectional or a six-to-eight seat dining table. Warm chalk, oat, or the deeper terracotta walls a neutral rug needs let the ivory field settle as a considered ground. The drawing reads from a standing viewer, then resolves at chair-side. Furniture sits on the rug rather than around it; this is a piece that wants the conversation organised over its surface.
Conservation
Rotate the rug end for end each season so the pile and the colour age in step. Vacuum weekly, suction only. Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth, never rub. Hand wash by a specialist every six years. With this care the piece carries through a generation and gains character on the way.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
