The pattern in this rug came out of a contemporary design studio working with traditional Indian colour theory in modern geometry. The drawing took weeks before a single thread of wool reached the canvas; the construction is built to honour that drawing. The result sits in the lineage of mid-century textile work without quoting any single source directly.
Construction took 3 weeks for two tufters and a finisher. After the pile was set, the back was coated with natural latex to lock the tufts and bonded to a cotton scrim. The face was carved by hand to relieve the grey pattern from the field by two millimetres. The wool was sourced from Indian highland flocks, hand-spun into a four-ply yarn, and dyed in copper vats before reaching the tufting frame.
The composition
The geometry is restrained. A single motif repeats across the field at a measured interval, and the grey ground carries the rhythm without competing with it. The pile was carved in a second pass, which gives the surface a tactile quality that flat-cut tufting does not have.
The piece in a room
A medium living room with a three-seat sofa and a pair of chairs accepts the piece comfortably. The grey ground handles both linen upholstery and leather. A grey field reads as architecture and accepts almost any other colour above it. Best with one strong piece of wall art and otherwise restrained surfaces; the rug carries enough visual weight that the room does not need a second graphic event.
Care
Weekly suction vacuuming. Spills lift with cotton and cool water if attended to within the first hour. Expect mild shedding for the first month of use as loose fibres work themselves out of the pile. A professional rug cleaning every three years keeps the grey register at its full saturation and refreshes the pile lay. Avoid soaking the rug; the latex backing prefers surface cleaning to deep wet work.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
