Two tufters at a frame, working from a pencilled cartoon, can finish a medium rug in five to six weeks. The pile is dense New Zealand wool, the foundation is woven cotton canvas, and the finish is sealed with natural latex. The result is a piece that delivers the visual weight of a hand-knotted carpet at a fraction of the loom time and at a price the residential market can absorb.
Production took about 4 weeks on a single frame, with a tufter and a finisher working from a one-to-one cartoon transferred in chalk. The pile is New Zealand wool, the foundation is cotton canvas, and the finish is natural latex with a cotton scrim. Made in India. The piece is built to the specification of contract-grade hand-tufted carpets but priced as a residential floor.
The composition
The composition reads ivory first and pattern second, which is the right order for a piece this scale. The modern drawing acts as the rhythm against a dominant tonal field. The wool was over-dyed to bring the saturation up two registers above what a single dye bath could produce. The result is a surface with the depth of an oil glaze rather than the flatness of pigment print. The colour holds in interior light and warms slightly across the first year as the wool settles.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug works as a focal field in a considered room. Restrained upholstery, warm wood, and walls in a tonal register all let the ivory ground sit as the central element of the composition rather than as a competing voice. The piece pairs equally well with mid-century, modern, and transitional joinery, and reads against painted, papered, and exposed-brick walls without losing its own register.
Care
Weekly vacuum with suction only. Spot-clean spills immediately by blotting with cool water on cotton; never scrub. The first month or two will see light shedding as short fibres work themselves out of the pile, after which the body settles into its long-term density. Dry-clean professionally every two to three years to refresh the surface and lift compacted dust.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
