Sand and stone carpets sit inside a different aesthetic lineage from saturated colour pieces. The sandstorm over-dye in this patchwork pulls vintage carpet panels into a single field of warm beige, ochre, and dust, the way wind erodes a surface into one tone over time.

Three weavers spent roughly six months at the loom. The salvaged sections were collected from two-to-four-decade-old village carpets, measured, trimmed, and seamed onto a fresh cotton foundation. The over-dye bath used weld and walnut hull rather than indigo, holding the field within the warm spectrum and protecting the original beige and ivory areas from being lost. The hand-spun wool retains its lanolin sheen, which catches morning light differently across each panel.

The composition

A continuous wash of sand reads from across a room. Up close the surface resolves into ochre, bone, dust, faded camel, and the soft pale that comes when an old red has been bathed back almost to neutral. Floral and geometric ghosts surface in the field but never claim attention. The whole composition behaves as a single weathered surface rather than as discrete pieces.

Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn. Weekly suction-only vacuuming, beater bar off. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. Hand-wash by a wool conservator every five to seven years.
