Olive sits in the most useful colour territory for an overdye because it borrows weight from both green and brown without committing to either. The bath is calibrated to land on a tone halfway between Mediterranean foliage and old bronze, and the older wools absorb the dye at varying intensities to give the field its quiet depth.
Recovered hand-knotted wool sections were sheared down and washed clean of original dye. Two artisans worked the dye phase over roughly four months, lowering each piece into an olive bath for forty-eight hours at controlled temperature. The dyed pieces were stitched together by a finisher on a cotton backing and the surface levelled with a hand-shear at six millimetres.
The composition
A field of dusty olive that varies from patch to patch in saturation, some sections pulling toward mossy green and others closer to old bronze. The seams between patches are quiet. Underlying carpet patterns ghost through as faint tonal shifts rather than visible figures. Under daylight the olive reads as a calm earthy mid-tone, and under tungsten it warms toward antique brass. Over two years the colour will settle by half a stop.
What you are buying
European patchwork overdyes at this scale are listed at four to six lakh through Western dealers. This piece is offered direct from the Indian workshop. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating because the constituent fibre is older and denser than any new wool the loom would source.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) anchors a primary living room or a study. The olive ground reads against cream plaster walls, against pale oak floors, and against deep green or terracotta upholstery. It pairs with brass lighting, with mid-century walnut, and with art that uses warm earth tones. The colour grounds rooms with high ceilings and tall windows particularly well.
Conservation
Suction vacuum every week. Rotate end to end each spring and autumn. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth pressed against the pile. Avoid bleach. A wool conservator should hand-wash the rug every five years to restore lanolin and remove embedded grit.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
