Lime yellow is one of those colours that lives entirely in the relationship between the dye and the wool. On a synthetic fibre it reads as plastic. On undyed white wool it reads as acid. On wool that already carries decades of layered vegetable colour, it reads as the late-afternoon side of a citrus tree, half green, half gold, slightly weathered. That third reading is the one this overdyed patchwork is built to deliver.
The carpet measures 9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) and is constructed from patches lifted out of mid-twentieth-century Anatolian and Persian rugs, the source pieces dating broadly between 1945 and 1985. Three weavers in India worked the new piece for around four months, cutting the salvaged wool into squares, reassembling them on a fresh cotton warp, hand-knotting new joining stitches between the patches, and finally lowering the entire field into a single immersion bath of lime-yellow dye.
The composition
The lime sits across the field like sunlight filtered through a leaf canopy. Patches with old indigo grounds now read olive-gold. Patches with old reds turn ochre. Patches that began ivory glow at full lime intensity. Beneath the dye, faded patterns from the source rugs flicker into view, ghost medallions and broken borders made visible only by changes in pile direction. The grid is the discipline that holds the brightness; the wool grain is the looseness that keeps it alive.
What you are buying
Carpets of this construction are typically retailed by European interior dealers at four to six thousand pounds and presented as collectible textile pieces rather than as floor coverings. The pricing here reflects direct sourcing from the Indian workshop. Each patch is genuinely vintage wool, between forty and eighty years old, hand-knotted in the original tradition long before the overdye was conceived. The carpet appreciates with continued use as the dye sits further into the fibre and the patina deepens.
The piece in a room
Lime yellow at this size is best given a calm context to inhabit. Pale plaster walls, raw oak floors, upholstery in undyed linen or bone wool, brass and bone accents. The carpet pulls warm light into the centre of the room and gives back a glow that looks particularly good in north-facing rooms that otherwise lack chroma. Pairs cleanly with both midcentury and contemporary furniture; avoid printed textiles in the same field of view.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly, suction only, no beater bar. Rotate the carpet a half turn each spring. Treat any spill by blotting outward with a clean cotton cloth and letting the wool air dry without heat. Specialist hand wash every six years by a wool-trained conservator. With this regimen the carpet retains its character across multiple decades of use.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
