Yellow at saturation is the hardest dye in the carpet vocabulary to handle without it tipping into novelty. The lime-yellow over-dye family was developed because plain weld and pomegranate yellows sat too quietly over older patchwork grounds, while citrus pigments tipped synthetic. The compromise was a green-shifted yellow, weighted toward weld with a measured indigo correction, applied over salvaged wool whose underlying tonal variation gives the colour its complexity.
Two weavers and a finisher carried this rug through over roughly four months on an Indian vertical loom, joining hand-cut antique pile fragments to a cotton foundation, then sending the body to the wash team for the lime over-dye. The base wool is hand-spun highland fleece, irregular in spin so the dye uptake varies by half a tone across the field. That irregularity is the visible texture of a hand-finished surface and is exactly what flat industrial yellow lacks.
The composition
Lime-yellow dominates, with deeper olive pulls where the underlying fragments were originally dark, and a sharper acid lift where worn ivory took the dye most readily. Beneath the over-dye, fragmentary vine work and medallion silhouettes register as quieter green-on-green echoes. In low daylight the carpet reads green; in full sun it pushes toward yellow. That tonal shift is built into the dye recipe.
What you are buying
Yellow over-dyed patchwork pieces are scarcer in the trade because the dye is harder to land. Comparable carpets clear European specialist dealers at $4,000 to $7,500 in this size band. The piece here is a hand-knotted carpet on a cotton warp, in real wool, finished by hand and not by machine. The over-dye matures rather than fading, and the rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating in the way a printed-pattern surface does.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm) sits well under a small writing setup, a single armchair and side table, or as the foot anchor of a queen bed. The lime palette pairs with pale grey walls, brass fittings, walnut surfaces, and any cool-toned upholstery. Strongly green plant arrangements compete with the rug; preference goes to dried botanicals or single-stem cut flowers in clear glass.
Conservation
Weekly suction vacuuming, no rotating brush. Rotate the carpet half a turn every six months so the side near a window does not bleach disproportionately. Avoid bleach-based cleaners entirely. Blot spills with cold water and a clean cotton cloth, never rub. A wool conservator wash every five years lifts dust without softening the over-dye saturation. Forty plus years of use is realistic with this approach.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
